Call Call Call Call

Recovering from an abortion can be difficult, especially if you experience adverse mental health effects. The National Institutes of Health states that issues like depression, anxiety, and feelings of loss or grief can occur in some women. These may be mild or severely impact daily life.

First, be kind to yourself during the recovery process. Abortion is traumatic for some, and it is challenging not to pin additional blame and guilt on your actions. Focus on processing your experience, identifying your emotions, and seeking help.

Give Yourself Time

Post-abortion recovery doesn’t happen overnight. You may notice a significant change in weeks, months, or even years. But that doesn’t mean you’re undeserving of support. Like all challenges, take things one day at a time.

You may experience setbacks; healing isn’t a linear journey. But know that this frustration is normal. Your feelings are valid. Continue doing what you enjoy, like outdoor activities or with friends. Keeping your life as “normal” as possible can help you cope in a healthy manner.

Accept the Help You Need

Professional support from a counselor or therapist trained in post-abortion recovery is an excellent way to begin your healing journey. Through regular sessions, you’ll equip yourself with the tools you need to move forward.

Support groups can also be beneficial. Experiencing this journey with a community of those who have also experienced abortion can create understanding and peace. These groups offer the nonjudgmental assistance you need.

Local pregnancy centers like Informed Choices Women’s Center provide post-abortion care. We offer confidential and compassionate support for men and women. Together, our center will help you sort through your feelings.
