Call Call Call Call

Making a pregnancy decision is never easy, but you owe it to yourself to be informed. If you’ve had an abortion and don’t want another one, you can make another choice.

Informed Choices Women’s Center provides no-cost, confidential appointments for pregnancy testing. At your appointment, you can talk about your options with a nurse.

What Options Do I Have?

Both adoption and parenting involve carrying your pregnancy and giving birth. But they offer two distinct outcomes–one may suit you better.

Adoption

Contrary to what you may have heard or read about, adoption does not mean you’re giving up a child. Nor does it mean you don’t care about or love them. Adoption is quite the opposite.

When you place your child in a loving, supportive home, you make a selfless and courageous decision. You’ve decided you cannot parent but want your child to be happy and successful.

With adoption, you choose the family you want for your child and an adoption plan that suits your needs best. These plans include:

  • Open adoption: You form a relationship with your child and communicate with them through letters, phone calls, visits, etc. Your child will know who you are and your place in their life.
  • Semi-open adoption: You have contact with the child, but it is facilitated through a third party, like an adoption attorney or agency.
  • Closed adoption: You will remain anonymous, and all identifying records will be sealed. No contact occurs with the adoptive family.

If you choose this option, you won’t pay for any adoption services and may receive additional financial and material assistance.

Adoption isn’t an easy decision and can come with complicated feelings, so it’s best to learn about this option before deciding.

Parenting

You may have mixed feelings about parenting. While it can be an enriching journey, parenting is also challenging and emotional. Raising a child is a major responsibility that can’t be taken lightly.

You’ll need to ask yourself whether you’re ready to parent and consider everything that comes with that decision. You can ask yourself other questions, including:

  • Do I have the finances needed to raise a child?
  • Am I physically and mentally able to parent?
  • Do I have a support system in place?
  • Do I have a suitable home environment for a child?
  • Will the baby’s father be involved?

If you select this option, we provide no-cost parenting resources, including an “Earn While You Learn” program. We can also help you find additional support for your situation.
